Modern Baroque

It was important to our client, a recently married couple, that their new home represented both of their styles. Hers: dramatic and ornate with a European influence. His: modern and pragmatic. We worked with them to design a space that was a harmonious blend of old-world extravagance with modern simplicity.
As an alternative to a formal dining area, we created the “champagne room”. Outfitted with a comfortable, wrap-around banquette, the space converts from a lounge to a dining area with the use of a custom dining table-top.
The kitchen showcases their love of bold materials with Calcutta Turquoise countertops, lacquer cabinetry and sculptural bronze trees to conceal base building piping.
Her office and guest room were inspired by the Madame de Pompadour apartment at the Palace of Versailles, designed in the 1700s. We partnered with a European textile mill to recreate a silk textile, which was used as upholstery and bedding. With a pendant commissioned in Venice, custom molding and a built-in brass cabinet, it is a space unlike any other.
"Mere color, unspoiled by meaning and unallied with definite form can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways."
